Samuel

Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children

Samuel is an active boy who just had his 10th birthday in December. He lives in a multigenerational home with his mom, dad and sister, as well as his grandmother, grandfather, and great grandmother. Samuel enjoys being
outside playing with his cousins and parents as well as anything to do with art. He assists with caring for both the chickens and the dogs.

He was diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy in early childhood and has since gone through much testing and some therapy with difficulty walking and fine motor skills. Due to the frequent falls he has had many fractures in both upper body and lower body. He just had bilateral hip surgery to correct some of his lower body issues and is progressing at an amazing rate, walking using full weight bearing and a walker, working on getting in and out of the bath, getting dressed and getting in and out of his bed. Samuel has trouble with fine and gross motor in his upper body also and we have worked on integrating both hands to assist with writing, making snowballs, and filling water balloons, all tasks extremely important to a growing boy. He spends a lot of time in his wheelchair right now but will be going to the wheeled walker soon and using the wheelchair for long distances only. We continue to work on safety issues because, after all he is a busy boy.

Samuel has had Elks therapy since last fall and mom thanks this therapist at each visit for the much needed therapy and personal care the Elks team is so noted for.
