Beacon Grant – Drug Awareness

| In the News

The Vancouver Elks #823 received a Beacon Grant to help support the afterschool program at Open House Ministries, a Family Shelter located in downtown Vancouver.

We combined our mission to help children in their afterschool program with our Drug Awareness Program by sponsoring a pizza party. Elroy attended and played basketball with some of the kids. Who knew Elroy was such a great basketball player?

We hope to continue providing pizza parties with our Drug Awareness Education Program as a quarterly event. Drug Awareness coloring books, fidgets, and brain squeeze balls were given to those attending. The time spent with these kids gave an opportunity to role-play ways to tell someone they don’t want to do drugs with words they are comfortable saying.

Open House Ministries provide housing for about 50 children and their families with their studio apartments and boarding house facilities. They are building more housing units as the need in the community is exceeding their capabilities.

We are proud to help in our community with Beacon Grants made possible by contributions to Elks National Foundation.
