Kimberley

Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children

Kimberley has grown to be an energetic, friendly, social teenager. She will be entering 7th grade in the fall. She has received OT from the Washington Elks Program since she was 3 years old. Kimberley was born 3 months premature and had many neonatal complications, resulting in Cerebral Palsy with spastic quadriplegia. Her therapy has changed over the years from dealing with sensory issues resulting from hip surgery to muscle stretching and strengthening to manual wheelchair mobility to electric wheelchair use and technology. We still work on developing better muscle control for sitting, standing, transferring into and out of her wheelchair, and using her arms and hands. However, new needs have included working on self dressing and using technology. Handwriting is not very functional for her so we are working on keyboarding on the computer and Ipad. She is quite motivated to work on these things. At times, we will work on tasks that come up in her daily life that she would like to be able to do. As any teenager these days she enjoys playing video and computer games and listening to music on her ipod. Adaptations sometimes need to be made to help her do these tasks. Problem solving is the name of the game as we strive to help her be functional and as independent as possible
