With his bright smile and huge hugs, Ian greets his Elks Therapist each week!
He usually looks forward to “playing” therapy games, and making things. He even enjoys a meal or snack sometimes during therapy. Little does he know, that each activity is a carefully planned task that helps him overcome the many delays that he faces.
At almost 7 years old, Ian faces many challenges, including a serious genetic condition that is known to cause both motor and learning delays. He has a hearing impairment, and has had surgery on both his eyes and his hands.
Ian was adopted with his 3 siblings (all of whom also have the same genetic condition), by a warm and loving family—but having to take 4 kids, under the age of 6 to therapy sessions outside the home is quite an overwhelming task. Also consider, that all 4 children have multiple medical and therapy appointments.
Thank goodness for the Elks Therapy program, who are able to come IN HOME and see several kids during one visit—sometimes 1, sometimes a little therapy group! Ian continues to work on his fine motor skills, like cutting and learning to trace and write letters. He is learning how to eat using utensils, and is improving with chewing and swallowing foods more easily.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE ELKS MEMBERS AND FRIENDS FOR YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS THAT MAKE THIS PROGRAM POSSIBLE!
