Amalie was born in the comfort of her own home after an uncomplicated pregnancy. She was born with hip dysplagia and had difficulty feeding and gaining weight. After a few months, her pediatrician referred Amalie to the Elks Therapy Program to help her feed and improve her motor skills. At 9 months of age, Amalie was referred to Seattle Children’s Hospital for bilateral hip surgery and was diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome. Amalie’s Elk therapist provided her with many months of care through lengthy periods of body casts and therapeutic activities to help her regain her strength and learn new developmental skills. Now at 4 years of age, Amalie is running, jumping and climbing.
